    Cygne, jonc et iris (1875)

     Il s'agit de l'une des premières créations de papier peint de Walter Crane, créée en 1875. Les contours noirs et les blocs de couleur unis de cette création suggèrent une étude de la peinture sur vase grec. Une version légèrement modifiée de ce dessin a été réalisée comme papier peint deux ans plus tard par Jeffrey & Co.

    Walter Crane a développé son style figuratif en illustrant des livres, pour lesquels il était le plus célèbre. Dans ses livres illustrés pour enfants des années 1870, les dessins intelligents et le sens brillant des couleurs ont rendu son travail populaire auprès des enfants et des adultes, et ils sont toujours imprimés 130 ans plus tard. En règle générale, les créations de papiers peints de Crane étaient figuratives et souvent narratives, s'inspirant du mythe grec, des contes de fées et des comptines.
