Albert Joseph Pénot était un peintre français connu pour ses nus féminins et ses paysages. Aujourd'hui, il est plus populairement et spécifiquement reconnu pour un sous-ensemble de peintures centrées sur des femmes aux thèmes plus sombres et plus macabres.

Pénot se souciait avant tout de représentations anatomiquement exactes des femmes.
