Esta fotografía se titula comúnmente "Fiesta del té de las brujas galesas", pero los sujetos no son brujas ni galeses. Están posados en el Trinity Hospital, Castle Rising en Northampton, Inglaterra. Trinity Hospital, Castle Rising era una organización benéfica Almshouse, un lugar para que vivieran mujeres pobres solteras (o viudas) mayores de 56 años.

Los requisitos originales (alrededor de 1600) eran: “Deben ser de vida y conversación honestas, religiosas, serias y discretas, capaces de leer, si así fuera, una mujer soltera, su lugar debe ser nulo en el matrimonio, ser de 56 años al menos, no es un mendigo común, una ramera, un regañono, un borracho, un frecuentador de tabernas, posadas y cervecerías”.

Se pidió a los residentes del Trinity Hospital que acudieran a la oración tres veces al día para decir el Padrenuestro, el Credo y una oración ordenada por el Fundador para él y su noble familia.

Si avanzamos hasta el día de hoy, los criterios de esta organización benéfica de beneficencia no son tan estrictos. El único requisito de calificación es para mujeres solteras de las parroquias de Castle Rising, North Wootton y Roydon que se encuentran en circunstancias financieras reducidas. Hoy en día tampoco existe un código de vestimenta, pero los residentes se enorgullecen de vestirse con el “uniforme” (como el de la imagen) proporcionado por Henry Howard, conde de Northampton, para ocasiones especiales como el Día del Fundador.
